Brown Owls Melbourne 3000 - some LASTS

Howdy!

I have some 'lasts' to let you know about:

1. Us Brown Owls Melbourne 3000 CBD'ers had our LAST gathering of the year on tuesday - we had a super pom-pom-tastic time, see below for some nice pics

2. This pom-pom-tastic gathering was my LAST gathering as Brown Owls Melbourne 3000 Convenor - its time for me to hang up my Brown Owls hat, at least from an organising point of view. Brown Owls is still very close to my heart and I shall look forward to continuing to attend the city and other groups. Hence....... I'm hoping that one of you would like to put your hand up for me to hand the Melbourne CBD group reins over to. Who would like to volunteer? I'm happy to hand over contacts for Madame Brussels and give you the low down on what to do etc, though I'm sure a new person will bring new ideas and I'm all for that. Please contact me (leave a comment here, or Facebook / email me - find details in the column on the right) if you are interested. The city group is a lovely group and its been a pleasure to be part of it and see such lovely peeps.

Check out these Pom-pom-tastic pics:

Brenda was a dab hand with the sharp scissors and produced this beaut bronze pom pom

its me! the pom with the pom pom - most of the silver from this pom pom came off on my hand - i looked a little like the tin man from the wizard of oz

Sally - proper posing with her pom

Alex had the best selection of tissue paper - in super patterns and colours and everything, she's right arty

Bec managed to make her pom pom single handed, she just didn't want to be separated from that mojito!

As ever, Kimmy excelled - she's very very clever you know - check out that little cheery red beaut of a pom pom.

Ahh, original brown owl friend Shannon - so glad to have met you at that first one Shan

Super teacher Donna - she did us proud and was a super good teach.

We did a spot of pom-pom bombing and left some little pom pom gifts for Madame Brussels
- thanks to Bec for being safety monitor and ensuring i didn't fall off the chair!

It's been great you Brown Owls 3000 CBD'ers - thanks for all the fun times. I very very much hope that someone puts their hands up to continuing this group, so I can still come and visit.

Hope to see you soon

Wishing you all crafty good health

Over and out

Sue x

Or if you'd rather BYO project thats fine too.

where:   The Parlour Room, Madame Brussels, level 3, 59-63 Bourke Street, Melb 3000

Brisbane: Recycled t-shirt craft

Hello Brisbane Owls and BrisStylers!

The combined meet up of two fab Brisbane crafty groups you've been waiting for! It's time to raid your wardrobe or the local op shop to give new life to old t-shirts!

There are three options for re-cycling your old t-shirts this time! We'll show you how to quickly whip up some t-shirt yarn to be used for anything you can crochet, knit, macrame weave or plait OR use your old t-shirts to make sweet little rosettes in a matter of minutes OR create a fabulous new infinity scarf! The options for re-purposeing your old t-shirts are only limited by your imagination!

As always if recycling t-shirts isn't your thing bring along your own craft to work on. It's all about taking time out for some crafty fun, a chat and laugh and a cuppa :)

Meet up details

When: Sunday 18 November, 10:30am-12:30pm

WhereCarindale Library, Westfield Carindale, 1151 Creek Road, Carindale

What to bring:
1. Old t-shirts: The more the merrier! Note that if making t-shirt yarn or infinity scarves printed t-shirts don't work as well as un-printed, the ink on printed sections don't curl up to make a nice tube.
2. Scissors or even better a rotary cutter
3. Needle and thread, fabric glue and fabric scraps: If making rosettes
4. Cutting board

If you don't have some of these things we will have some extras available on the day for you to use (other than t-shirts, definitely bring at least one of those).

RSVP: As soon as possible by emailing brisbanebrownowls@gmail.com

See you then!

November Brown Owls...Christmas is coming!

October Brown Owls was mistakenly booked for Show weekend in Hobart, so we moved it to the the first weekend in November.

Most people were making Christmas decorations; some for themselves, some for our Christmas decoration swap.

I was making felt matroyshka doll decorations (courtesy of instructions here) in jewel colours:

Lis was making reindeer from a pattern she is making up:

sorry for this terrible photo...

My daughter beat us all and finished a decoration (though I was browbeaten into a lot of helping):

Josie and Hillary had coincidentally both found the same pattern on Etsy and were making felt gnomes:

While Rachel bucked the trend and worked on an embroidery for her mum:

Next meet is scheduled for 24th November but is likely to move back to the 1st December, just to give us a better balance of meetings.  Then we need to decide on meetings for the New Year!

Southside November Brown Owls!

Brown Owls time again!  Next Thursday 8th November, join us all for a very good cause – this month we’re going to be making softies – Softies for Mirabel.

Pip from Meet Me at Mikes has been running Softies for Mirabel for 6 years now – head over to Mikes for more information about this great cause.
Mirabel Foundation does important work, supporting kids who are affected by parental substance abuse. They also support family members who might be caring for those kids.
Did you know that lots of kids move from the care of their parents to grandparents or aunties and uncles? Mirabel provides support to these children and their extended family, making sure that they all know how special they are, and that they are not alone.
Each year we run Softies For Mirabel with The Mirabel Foundation. We encourage you to make a soft toy (a softie!) for a Mirabel child. We think that it's really important to show these kids that they are in our thoughts and that we care about them. A handmade buddy can be a loyal companion to a child who may have the weight of the world on their shoulders at times.”
