Brown Owls Melbourne 3000, Movember in December pics

Well, didnt we have a super night! Last tuesday, 13th Dec, the Brown Owls Melbourne 3000 group caught up for a fabulous 'Movember in December' fundraiser.

We had a super raffle and some super winners:
Kate was the fine winner of a Madame Brussesls gift voucher for a
Garden Party for two.
Gina won a copy of Pip's lovely book: Make Hey While the Sun Shines
Nadia was thrilled to take home a beautiful teahouse brooch and accessories, kindly donated by Tess.
Initially, I (thats me, Sue) won the Crafting Health gift voucher for a one hour luxurious massage, but given I was the one donating this prize (what are the chances of that!) I re-donated it and Kim, a Madame Brussels patron, was the very excited winner. All up we raised $240 - weyhey! - now donated to our official Movember page, which you can find here.

Thank you very very much to all those involved - prize donaters and attendees alike.

As promised, here is some pictorial evidence.

Look forward to the next gathering - tues 17th january - a BYO night, pop it in your diary.

Wishing you all a very super enjoyable festive season.

Hobart Brown Owls - Last meet for 2011

What a lovely few months the Hobart Brown Owls have had getting to know each other! Our November meet was just lovely. Liz brought her sewing machine along this time and was quietly productive while Chloe quilted, Sel sewed that gorgeous owl and the rest of us knitted. And drank tea. And talked. Lots. Thanks for coming everyone! It was so lovely... This Saturday we'll meet again. A little sooner than usual, but We figured we could squeeze one more owly meet in, surely! I'm really looking forward to some new projects next year, possibly even collaborative... Did someone say quilt?

Where: The little cottage in the playground, Batchelor Way, Taroona.

When: 1.30-4.30pm - THIS SATURDAY - 10/12/2011
Here's what is supplied: A kettle, tea, milk, honey and sugar...

Here's what you need to bring: Something crafty to work on and maybe a plate of afternoon tea to share? Only if you feel like it...

We'll need a contribution of $2, to cover venue hire.

Children are welcome, so long as they don't hinder the creative crafty time of other members. There is ample playground space for them to wander safely :)

If you're looking for something to work on, perhaps you'd like to make a christmas decoration or two? I'll be needle felting a couple of different things and will have some basic patterns you could try. Bring along some felt, buttons, fleece, needles, thread... or anything
you have lying around! Hope to see you there. xx
PS. You can find more information and get to know us over on the facebook page. Drop in and say hi!

Geelong Brown Owls - Last Meet for 2011

Our next meeting of the Geelong Brown Owls will be our last for this year as we'll break for the holiday craziness & resume next year.

We'll be at the Vines road community centre; 49 Vines Road, Hamlyn Heights. Enter through the automatic doors, turn left towards reception and they will point you to the right room.

As it's certainly time to get into the Christmas Spirit, I thought a little Kris Kringle would be fun - bring along a little handmade Christmas decoration, wrapped up, and we'll lucky dip them amongst those who have made one.

One of our members posted this link to get you thinking: http://www.alittlebirdtoldme-craft.com/2011/11/christmas-decoration-tutorials.html

If you don't have time or just don't want to make an ornament, you are still more than welcome to come along!

What to bring:

-$2 donation to cover room hire (if we have less than 15 people
coming, we may need to pitch in an extra dollar, I'll keep you posted)

-a small snack to share ( if you want to!), we will also have access to a tea and coffee station

-your name badge if you have one

-a project you are working on, or, if you are looking for inspiration, I'll have an easy pattern for a mug cosy and/or some crocheted flowers.

You Will Need:

* a ball of 8ply wool (or bits & pieces...)
* a 4mm crochet hook
* a button & a yarn needle (for mug cosy only)

If you don't know how to crochet, don't worry, that's what we're there for. New members welcome to come & join in, see you there!

Southside Owls ~ Thursday 8th December ~ Eat, Drink and Be Merry!

Hello everyone!

This is going to be our last meet for 2011, so we're going to be getting into the festive spirit with food, drinks and Christmas decorations!

There are so so many great Christmas decoration patterns and tutorials on the interwebs! Here are a few for some inspiration:

I've made Pip's nana baubles and crochet hearts so I can help anyone out that would like to give those a try.

I'm sure many of you already have plans for your crafty Christmas decorations, and are probably well under way, which is why we thought we'd leave this one open so you can bring along any Christmassy UFOs and get them finished off before the big day.

Date: Thursday 8th December
Time: 7pm onwards
Venue: Miss Jackson, 2/19 Grey Street St. Kilda (through the big rusty gate)
Close to the #16, #96 and #112 trams, and nearby parking below

What to bring:
~ Your Christmas decoration project or of course any BYO project is fine, and if you "forget" your project and just want to come along to be a social butterfly well that's just fine and dandy too!

~ A plate of food to share, a mix of sweet and savoury would be nice, so pop the details of what you are bringing along in the comments

Miss Jackson will provide wine for all! And I'll be bringing along a trifle!

RSVP: Pop a comment to let us know you are coming along, and please add in the plate of food you would like to bring to share!

Feel free to email me or tweet me with any questions.

EAT, DRINK AND BE MERRY!

And so another year is drawing to a close. Our last meeting for the year will be
Sunday 18th December

Everyone is welcome, it would be lovely to see you all and if you've never come along before, you are especially welcome. So bring some hand held craft for a respite from Christmas chaos or indeed bring some frenzied Christmas craftiness with you.

These are Keti's clever fingers at work at our last meeting. We all wish Keti the very best for the imminent birth of her baby. Good luck Keti.

Brunswick Brown Owls Recycled Craft with Kate

The delightful Kate, who has just been to Fiji to teach some recycling craft skills, will be taking us through a workshop on Wednesday 30th November at 7pm at the Sporting Club, Weston St, Brunswick, Vic.

We’ll be making paper beads for jewellery and knitting or crocheting with ‘plarn’- yep, it’s a clever name for plastic yarn! And it’s all made of recycled materials! Come along and learn some new skills with us, and feel free to bring some materials to share!

You might need:

Magazines

Craft glue

Earring backs

Craft wire

Clean plastic bags for plarn (coloured ones are prettiest)

Large knitting needles for the plarn- size 8 is great

Scissors

Needles

Brown Owls Melbourne 3000, December Festivi-mo gathering

Announcing our very special Christmas gathering on Tuesday 13th December.

In our November meet there were a few requests for crafty moustache making (and why the devil not). So having missed the ideal opportunity for doing moustaches for Movember I thought why not do Movember in December. And what's more christmassy than moustaches (!?!!?!). So you may be inundated with more festive stylee invitations involving tinsel and baubles, but I encourage you to break with tradition and come and festively celebrate with a mo. Festivi-mo!

Of course if you'd rather you can BYO project of any type you like and just join in us in mo-spirit.

Other ways you can join in are by supporting this good cause - we will be having a good old fashioned raffle. And I have been able to aquire some GREAT PRIZES, including:
- a Madame Brussels gift voucher for a Garden Party for two
- a copy of Pip's lovely book, Make Hey While the Sun Shines
- a Crafting Health gift voucher for a one hour luxurious massage

brilliant! brilliant! brilliant! thanks to all our lovely prize contributers. And thanks to Madame Brussels too, for agreeing that we can approach their other patrons on the evening with the view to trying to sell a few more raffle tickets.

In addition I have set us up our very own Movember fundraising page, so if you'd like to contribute but can't make it along on the evening then if you would like you can follow this link to make a donation and donate to 'my team' (please read it as 'our team') which is aptly named Brown Owls Melbourne 3000! Feel free to pass this link onto anyone else that you feel might like to contribute.

I have been scouring the net for patterns and have come up with these ones below (for which I've gained permission, where necessary from the creators for us to use) - thanks to Tara Murray, Marion Clark and Louie.

http://www.louiesloops.com/2011/09/i-mustache-you-question.html?m=1

Of course if you do some scouring of the net I'm sure you'll come up with a moustache of equivalent merit - a moustache in felt and simple stitching I think would work a treat.

For moustache wearing / adornment there are a few options - elastic, stick holder thingos and eyelash glue. I'll bring along some wooden kebab skewers (I reckon there'll work a treat, as long as we're careful with the pointy ends!) and some eyelash glue, so that's the latter 2 covered.

Here are some details:

when: Tuesday 13th November 2011
at: 6.30 - 10pm
where: The Parlour, Madame Brussels, level 3, 59-63 Bourke St, Melbourne 3000
bring: moustache making equipment as per your crafty choice, whether that be crochet, knitting, stitching, patchwork etc (or project of your choice)
cost: no fee for attendance but you may like to purchase a drink or a delight from the Madame Brussels menu, by way of a thankyou for room usage
RSVP: in the comments section below please - indicating your name eg. Sue H

As you may know I do like a fancy frock, so I encourage you to join me in donning a fancy frock for the evening, they'll set off our moustache's so fabulously. I'll bring some extra dress up frocks if there's room in my Brown Owls bag. And to top it off tastically I'm going to bring some wigs, I only have four, so if you have one bring it! Our photos are gonna be brilliant.

So.... It's gonna be a SUPER SPECIAL meet, let's make it the best of the year. Bring friends, bring menfolk. We'd love to see more menfolk. We'd love to see more friends.

Will be lovely to see you. Dont forget to RSVP in the comments below, with your name.

Happy Festivi-mo!

Sue

Hey there Canberra Owls!

We are putting together the final details for our next meet, but wanted to post a little save the date for your diary.

Our next meet will be Saturday 19 November, 2pm to 4pm, at the Downer Community Centre as always.

As for the theme - well, just in case you hadn’t noticed, its NOVEMBER and that means that (GASP!) Christmas is lurking right around the corner! Christmas ornaments will be on the agenda, but we're still finalising projects and supplies. We'll have a couple of different options and kits for cheap.

So put the 19th in your diaries, and watch this space - we'll be back SOON with the details!
