Canberra Brown Owls - 2010 meet & greet!

Hi Brown Owls!

Yesterday the Canberra Brown Owls got together for a meet and greet to kick off a new crafty year. It was lovely to see some familiar faces from last year, and super nice to see nearly as many new faces as well!

The theme this month was BYO craft, and I think it might just be my favourite theme to have - it is so inspiring to see all the wonderful things our clever Owls are making! =)

There were some very owly crafts, like these sock owls which were made from a Craft Schmaft owl kit

and this gorgeous jumper, which has little owls knitted around the collar!

We love granny squares (look at that quilt in the bottom picture too! pretty!)

and dollies!

Oooh, and just look at this birdy embroidery (birdbroidery? =))

It is the very first stitchy project by a brand new to embroidery Owl! And its so cute!! =)

Thanks so much for a fabulous afternoon, Canberra Owls!
We are VERY excited to start planning for our March meeting, which will be held on Sunday March 21, and we will be in touch with all the details soon!

xo Bron, Michelle, Georgie & Naomi! =)

WHERE: Gallery ONE 1 Torrens Street Mitcham

WHAT TO BRING: Own fabric if desired, needles, scissors and thimble if required.

Crafternoon in Richmond!

Happy Thursday everyone!

For our first little get together we will be having a crafternoon at the GB in Richmond.

Crochet for theose that are interested, BYO other hand held craft for those that are not.

For those that are interested in crochet, you will need to bring some yarn/wool (8ply is good, and apparently bright colours are easiest when your are learning), and a crochet hook (I would suggest a size 4.5 or 5, but you might find that a bigger one is easier to learn on). Send me an email if you are having trouble finding supplies and I'll do my best to help you out. We'll see how we go but we should be able to work up to at least beginning a granny square in an afternoon.

Date and Time: Saturday Feb 27th, 4pm-6pm (The pub actually opens at 4, so don't be too early!)

Venue: The Great Britain Hotel, 447 Church St Richmond

Cost: Free, but please bring a few dollars and buy a drink from the lovely bar staff.

RSVP: Just leave a comment below with your name, the more the merrier!

Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Report from Brown Owls in Finland

Hi Brown Owls on the other sides of the world,
This is the lonely Finnish Brown Owl reporting about January activities. Unlike you summer girls, we are having the wonderful winter of childhood memories with lots of snow:

January's theme was charity, and learning something new. The charity project this time was summer camps for children with long term illness. Jackie is one of hopefully many who organizes pillowcases to be sewn and donated to the organization Hole in the Wall Gang. Each child coming to their summer camp can take his or her pillowcase back home to keep.

The new thing I learned was the way of sewing the pillowcase after Jackie's tutorial like this:

The finished pillowcases look like this:

Now the 10 pillowcases are waiting to be mailed to Jackie, who will then take them to the camp when the time is right.

The theme for February will be tatting. I will try to learn this skill which is completely new to me, so there is a good chance to make mistakes as well.

If you are in Finland and want to join me to make this a real chapter, you find my e-mail on the left sidebar!

...or just in need a cuppa with nice folk?

If you answered "YES!" to any of the above then thank goodness - we are having a BYO meet on Wednesday. Bring along your current project and see what others are crafting!
