Owl Broochs with the Adelaide Owls

Golly Gee our Adelaide meetings are good fun - They always leave me feels ever so happy and totally inspired. Last night we all met for BYO or to make owl brooches.

We used a pattern from jojoebi to make our little brooches - she's got a great tutorial that is worth a look.

On the way out a group of us spotted the most amazing bike... couldn't help but take a few photos! How cool!

Brown Owls Canberra - October report!

We had a good turnout for the Canberra Brown Owls on a cold wet Sunday, and we welcomed our newest Brown Owl - Cathy from Adelaide Brown Owls - to the nest!

The October meeting had crept up rather suddenly on the prefects (oops!) and given them a right royal fright, so they decided to hold another BYO afternoon! I love BYO afternoons - you always have a good time seeing what others are making, and that is inspiration in itself!!

Cass prettied up a little t-shirt. Bron got clever with pinwheel brooches. Michelle L worked on crocheting a sock. Cristy and Michelle W worked on dolls.

Cathy made a beautiful bead and wire brooch.

Naomi and Lea made stencilled bags and felted creations, respectively. Topped off with some lovely food, coffee and tea and the usual fantastic conversation, it was a fabulous afternoon of crafting and friendship!

Next month we are meeting on Sunday 22 November and Michelle (that's me) will be teaching us (that's you) how to applique, both needleturn and blanket stitched. More on that in a couple of weeks though.

Gocco with Sydney!

The very best thing about owls is that we learn and share and help each other. Don't you agree? Tonight, Sydney Owls were lucky to have a gocco demo by Lisa and Manu. Jen brought a third gocco along, so everyone got a chance to try some gocco printing. We printed on paper. We printed on fabric. We even printed on noodle boxes. We had an amazing night.

I was in the back room, so most of the designs show were created by Lisa of The Red Thread. But both rooms were had quite the buzz! Rockets, stars, birds and ornaments. Probably the biggest hit of the night was the gocco stamper. I heard rumours of gals planning to concoct their own!

It was another terrific one for the Sydney gals. We've got quite a few demos to round out the year and roll into the next! Start clearing your calenders --

Early November - Tatting, Leichhardt
Mid November - Softies for Mirabel, Lane Cove
Early December - Owls Christmas Party and Secret Swap
January - Design Your Own Name Badge
Coming Soon - Bookbinding with Michelle, Brown Owls field trip and more!

Canberra BYO

Hello Canberra owls!

Eeeek, what happened to October???
It's already time for our next crafty get-together!

Our next meeting will be THIS Sunday October 25 from 2 pm, at the Downer Community Centre (enter from Frencham St, Downer).

We had such a blast seeing what our clever owls get up to in their own crafty time, that we are BYO-crafting again this month, so, you should bring along what ever you fancy!

In case you're stuck for Crafty Inspiration, here are links to five of our favourite cute projects that have popped up on craftzine and whip-up lately:

fabric butterfly
corner bookmark
button & wire brooch
jewelled t-shirt
pinwheel pin

You should also bring $6 for room hire, and, if you would like, something to share for afternoon tea =D

And don't forget - if there's something from a previous meeting that you've finished at home we'd love to see it too! =D

Please RSVP in the comments, and pop any questions you have there too!

Ooh, and next month the lovely Michelle is going to show us how to applique!

Sydney Owls Meeting Next Week - Gocco Demo

Hello lovely Owls,

Our next meeting is Thursday 22nd October at our Lane Cove venue: Centre House.

Manu and I (Lisa) are bringing our Goccos and Gocco Stamper for a demo and the chance for everyone to do some printing.

We will have 4 designs to make screens from and you can choose which of them you'd like to print - there'll be something Owly, something Christmasy, and... a couple of others, yet to be designed. Any requests?

Please bring paper, cards, fabric, or whatever you'd like to print onto. Depending on how many of us there are you might get to do around 40 prints (it's pretty quick), so come prepared! We should probably all BYO some craft too, and some snacks would be good as well.

We'll also ask for a few dollars each to cover the costs of Gocco materials, and don't forget that have to pay for the venue (about $5 each, depending on the number of people).

So, RSVP on this post. Hope you can make it!

Brisbane Owls RSVP for Ningyogami!

Brisbane Owls: It's time to RSVP for Ningyogami - you don't want to miss this one!

Date: Sunday 18 October

Time: 10:30am - 12:30pm

Venue: Same as usual. Recreation Room in Building 7 of Roma Street Parklands Apartments, Parkland Blvd, Brisbane. The Rec Room is on the ground floor of building 7. Building 7 is the end apartment block furthest away from the City.

Note on parking: The Multicultural Festival is on Sunday in the Parklands so parking will be difficult. You may be able to find a park nearby in Spring Hill but it's probably best to get dropped off or get a bus or train to Roma Street (take the Parklands exit at the station). The Festival is loads of fun so if you would like to go after Brown Owls we can lock your crafting stuff in the Rec Room and you can pick it up later in the day.

Craft-along Project: Ningyogami
Melanie has kindly offered to teach us how to make ningyogami (cute little Japanese paper dolls).
What to bring: A pair of scissors and $5 for instructions and a little kit of paper.
If you would like to make your ningyogami into cards, bring your own card stock or Melanie will have some available on the day for purchase at wholesale price. You might also like to bring a cutting knife and glue to make your card.

Or BYO craft. If you need to use a sewing machine let us know in the comments section so we can have one set up ready to go (you'll need to bring your own thread and bobbin).

Tea and coffee provided. Feel free to show off your baking skills by bringing a plate for morning tea :)

The weather is heating up so if you'd like a dip in the pool bring swimming gear, towel and sunscreen.

Please RSVP by leaving a comment on this post by Thursday 15 October.

See you then!
