Brown Owls 2010

Hello!

Hi! I just wanted to check in and let you know about Brown Owls for next year - and thank you all for your input and participation and enthusiasm and crafty hard work. Brown Owls is all about you guys - and you all helped spread a really awesome Craft Is Good message this year!

Next year, Brown Owls will be more widespread and more inclusive. Where ever you may be in the world, you can start your own local chapter. Maybe your chapter has 4 members... or 40! Some cities will have a few chapters. Others will only have one.

You just need to adhere to the Brown Owls Code Of Conduct... and complete an application to register your chapter. Your appointed leader or leaders can write on this blog to post meeting updates and project ideas. And you can manage your own members (including membership fees and membership packs if you choose to have them) and meetings in the way that suits you. You might even have your own satellite blog or google group. Up to you!

Let me know if you have any questions in the comments below. Existing chapters will run as is, in the way they choose (if they choose to!) next year!

MELBOURNE people - the big chapter will not run in the same way next year. You are free to start your own Brown Owls in your suburb -to keep it convenient for you - and ensure that you get what YOU want to get from Brown Owls. And if you want to cross town and join a non-local chapter, of course you can!

Thank you so much to everyone for supporting our Owly efforts - mucho looking forward to the THIRD YEAR of Owling in 2010. All chapters will be linked to on this blog in the sidebar - by state or country - so you can see if you want to join a nearby group or start your own!

So have a think and see if you want to be a Brown Owls leader in your neck of the woods. Or hang tight and wait a month or two-and see where the chapters are forming, before you decide! Applications will be ongoing - there is no deadline or cut off date.

xx Pip

I'm just doing up an application now - ohhh fun! Does anyone have any tips about the membership fees? What is reasonable to charge per person (if anything) and does this mean you should cover the cost of all members crafty supplies? Thanks for your advice on this :)

I don't suppose ya'll have any chapters in the Dallas (TX - USA) area? Hmmm, maybe I'll have to start one - it's not like I'm busy or anything...Oh! and could someone explain the connection of Brown Owls to the Girl Guides/Brownies picture at the bottom? The last time I heard about girl guides was in a C.S.Lewis book...

Hi guys!
The chapter list is in the sidebar of this blog - I'll update as I receive applications - but feel free to take the initiative and start your own local chapter!

Membership fees : keep them low - you can charge PER SESSION if that makes it easier. It's very important to try and use free or low-cost venues to keep fees down. Libraries, cafes and community centres are all good!

What are other people doing, re membership fees?

Re all these cute callouts :: email me and I'll make a list and put it on the MIKE's BLOG too to drum up some interest. Twitter might be a good way to do a callout for various areas too.

Next year is going to be GREAT!

Would anyone be interested in a Western Suburbs Brown Owls? Like Yarraville/Spotswood/Newport? I'd offer to host it but by job means I'm not always available. Would definitely join a group out this way though!

Pip

Are the chapters covered by Brown Owls public liability if anything goes wrong .. I mean, if we rent out a space they often ask if you have public liability, are we covered under yours?

Anyone interested in a Chapter on Sydney's Northern Beaches? I'll put my hand up to start it up but will have a month or two (April, May) when I'll need someone to organise for me due to Oscar having his leg operation.

Shelly oxox - I'd be up for a western suburbs chapter, but also can't take on the hosting role. Anyone else?

Would be super keen to join a group on the Northern Beaches of Sydney should there be one or enough interest in one!

Westside drinks in the Blarney stone for all interested in coming over this side for crafty-ness on the 1st of Feb?

I have no idea where to hold meetings so a bit of a chin wag and some cider might get our juices flowing!
