Sydney Yarn in the Pub - Learn to Knit

image from beaktreats

For the Sydney Owls!!!

Just a reminder than Wednesday, 19 May is Yarn in the Pub night. This month, we will have a few people teaching knitting for anyone who wants to learn. Of course, you are always welcome to crochet, do tapestry or any other pub-friendly craft that you'd like.

Wondering what you might learn or be able to contribute to?

  • knitting basics
  • what's the fuss with purls and cables
  • how to read knitting patterns
  • yarn plies and the magic of Z and S
  • knitting styles, continental and english knitting
  • knitting in the round

Please bring along any knitting patterns and samples you may have. And if you have a spare pair of needles or old ball of yarn that someone could borrow and try, it would be great if you could bring them for the night.

Wednesday 19 May, Madison Hotel, by Central Station, Upstairs area.
Officially from 7-10, but come along early. We'll be there.

Whether you are a knitting pro or knitting novice, please feel free to join us!

RSVP with a comment below to ensure we save enough seats!

I'll be coming along and I'm happy to lead the discussion of plies and yarn types, and how they affect knitting. I haven't knitted in years though, so I'm hoping to learn quite a bit!

I will be there, with my regular incapacity to do any sort of yarn-craft. But laughing! And talking a lot! You know, the usual...

I'll be there.

I'll bring with me, my needle roll, spare yarn, 'Knitspeak' (dictionary to help interprit patterns) and handouts for some easy knit and purl patterns.

See you there!

Hi there, I'm a major knitting nerd. So happy to bring along wool, needles, patterns, my beloved Woolcraft - the best knitting guide ever published.

I also am happy to share my latest skill - double knitting you knit two layers together.

I'll be there, but I might be a little late. I'm currently knitting a lace scarf, but will bring a pair of socks and am happy to show anyone the 'Magic Loop' method for socks.

Oi, sounds good. Have fun. Too much for me to get down and back, but loving all the crafty things you're getting up to. One day. One day.

What great timing - I'm just in the middle of my first knitting project in literally years (and last was only a scarf, actually so is this one)!! Looking forward to receiving lots of advice and guidance. See you there.

This will be my first time meeting everyone in your lovely group... I can bring needles and show how to knit in a round...(have never knitted a sock though - this or any other way... only hats and leg warmers)...

Looking forward to meeting you all!

Mary

I'd love to come. I know a little, but would love to learn.

Am feeling dog tired today, but if I can muster the energy would love to come tonight and meet everybody. Given that my other half has requested a classic cable knit scarf this theme couldn't come at a better time!

Yes, would love to come and have more needles than I know what to do with so will also bring along.

I've got a copy of Stitch and Bitch which is the best no-nonsense basic knitting instruction book I've found, so I'll bring that too. It was whilst reading it that I found out I knitted what I thought was a basic knit stitch in my own curious way which explained why none of my projects worked out to the dimensions they were supposed to and always kind of curled up...

I look forward to learning how to do more than knit a scarf!

I may be a bit late...hopefully I'll make it. The gods have conspired the last few times (gastro/sick kids) so fingers crossed. I'm not much of a knitter (might borrow some needles) but I'll definitely come for a drink and a laugh. See you there!

I'll be there! I don't know how to knit,

I'm hoping to make it though feeling a bit snuffly/pregnant.
What is the earliest anyone will be there from?
Would anyone be there from around 5.30?

Apologies for the no show - unexpected influx of work. Unfortunately this means I will be working out the intimidating world of cable knit with the help of my trusty side-kick Internet...AAACK
