Canberra Brown Owls Stamping Round Up

We had a cracking time on Sunday! We welcomed two new owls (Debra and Jacki) and one lovely new owlet (Daphne)

We drew our designs...

Carved and cut the erasers (and sometimes ourselves!)

Admired our handiwork...

And stamped!

A lovely design from one of our talented younger owls.

It was heaps of fun! Next month we'll be taking on the magical Gocco - stay tuned for details!

Canberra owls carve it up in July

Oh what fun we'll have this month! We're going to try our hands at stamp carving. There are a myriad of tutorials out there - and here are just a few:

The hard bit is going to be choosing what design you want to make! Keep in mind it's a bit like stencil making - you want to start with a pretty simple design that's easy to cut around.

We've got two sets of carving tools - but we could use a couple of extra if anyone has any. You can pick them up at craft shops for about $15 if you're really keen.

If you would like a kit containing two erasers and a blank card let us know on the rsvp of the Brown Owls post. You'll need $3 for the kit and use of the stamps and carving tools, or just $1.50 if you want to use the stamps and carving tools. Or you can bring your own!

The next meeting is on 25 July at the Downer Community Centre at 2.00pm. Don't forget your $6 for room hire and any nibbles you might want to bring. Can't wait to see you!

Naomi, Bron, George and Michelle.

Adelaide: Perpetual Brown Paper Calendars

Do you forget important events like birthdays, christenings or snitzel nights? This workshop may solve that problem for you! Come and make your own perpetual calendar just like the one below from Poppytalk.

When: Wed 14th July
Time: 7-9:30pm
Where: Box Factory - Adelaide Community Centre, 59 Regent St South Adelaide
Cost: $2 donation to the Box Factory + $2 for calendar workshop = $4
Numbers: We have calendars for 20 Owls. The first 20 to RSVP are IN!

Nitty gritty:
We figure you're all pretty crafty and have lots of little papers, fabrics, odds and ends floating about... so let's decorate the empty spaces at the top left hand of each month!

If each person brings along a few things for themself and 6 things to share with others there should be enough to go round. Ideas for things to bring and share must be under 7cm wide x 10cm high (amount of empty space on each page) and could include...
  • small scraps of gorgeous fabric
  • ribbon or ric-rac
  • fancy Japanese sticky tape like these
  • old stamps
  • swap cards
  • cute stickers (no glow-in-the-dark Transformers etc please)
  • inspirational quotes printed off on nice paper
  • printed clip-art images
  • printed copyright free images like these, these and not forgetting these.
  • ** Remember your own scissors and glue.
What will the workshop look like?

1) You'll be given a pack of 12 brown paper calendar pages
2) Pop your 'shared' items on the big front table
3) Decorate your calendar pages

Not into making calendars? Feel free to BYO craft, just say so in your comment.

See you there!
Ruth and your prefects.
