Get Ready for the Gocco Workshop!

What to print - Inspiration

Have you been thinking about what to print at the Gocco Workshop?
If you have not booked yet, you have two more days to do so! Still some spots to be had!
I had a bit of a look around and wanted to show you some nice gocco printed examples, to illustrate the different use of colour in a few different way.

First some examples of solid, one colour prints.  You can see how large solid areas get a sightly uneven effect.

Gocco is easiest printed as a single colour print. If you want to add a variety of colour, why not print the outline and add some colour to the print later. Kate Pugsley does this with water-colour as you can see below, but you could also use pen or pencils to do something similar.

You can use two colours in one print if you separate the colours with a little separator strip from each other. Just make sure there is enough space between the different colours. You can see an example below. The white and red ink is far enough apart to allow for a little strip to be placed between the two.

Also, have a think about what paper to use. I will bring some white card, but you could also bring  kraftaper, old book pages, pages of music, different coloured papers or lined or gridded paper or anything else you can think of to create different effects.

Sydney Brown Owls

Craft Night at Evening Star
Amigurumi Crochet
9 February

"I'd like to sup with my baby tonight
and play the pup with my baby tonight
but I ain't up to my baby tonight
cause it's too darn hot
It's too darn hot, It's too darn hot"

Cole Porter: "It's too darn hot"

I think we might all be feeling like this at the moment. With Valentine's Day just round the corner we may want to make a little something for our respective "baby" or bring back the original idea of Valentine's Day - our secret "baby". Come along and sit in air conditioned comfort and make a crocheted heart or maybe a little love bird, learn that elusive technique - magic ring or bring your favourite craft.

See you there from 5.30pm till late

Canberra Brown Owls 19 February - Embroidery!

Praying Mantis for Felix

Fancy doing some stitching? It's a great way to snazzy up bibs, onesies, handkerchiefs and tea towels! Perfect for gift giving and it makes hand made stuff really special.

Tea towel in progress

Our first meeting for 2011 will be held on Saturday February 19 at the Downer Community Centre in Frencham place and we will be learning how to stitch with embroidery thread, or if you know how to do that already, bring your current stitching project along! Please RSVP in the comment s box below so we know you are coming!

Here's the requirements list:

* $5 for the afternoons hall hire. Includes tea and coffee.

* a small plate of food to share for afternoon tea, only if you desire

* Something to stitch on. I suggest a plain hankie,a plain (flat fabric!) tea towel,or a onesie or plain bib.

* Some stabliser if you are using stretch fabrics such as onesies or t-shirts. Wash-away or tear away stabiliser will be fine (you can even use tissue paper!), or if you are happy for the stabiliser to be permanent bring some lightweight fusible interfacing.

* Embroidery needles. I use crewel needles, size 9. The eye has to be big enough for you to thread with embroidery floss.

* Embroidery floss in several colours.

* An embroidery hoop. If you can avoid it, don't get the cheap wooden ones from Spotlight or Lincraft. They collapse and are generally useless. Get a plastic one, or a good German wooden one from a craft shop. They are not expensive.

* Scissors

* Wash out pen, or pencil for tracing

* any stitching patterns you might like to use. Do an internet search for some freebies, or buy some online from places like Sublime Stitching. I will be bringing a lot of patterns along on the day, but you won't be able to iron transfer them on - a light box and the window will be available for tracing though!

18th June
30th of July
