Come to the second last Southside Owls night of the year!

Yep, it’s November already. I know everyone feels the same way when I say the old cliche – seriously where has this year gone?!

So it’s our last time this year to host Brown Owls – next month it’s Shannon’s turn:)
Let’s just do a BYO this month, what do you think? Bring along whatever project you’re working on and we’ll sit, chat, drink and have a lovely time. Is it too early to have champagne – has the festive season not started yet? Let’s do it anyway! I’ll have some delicious champagne for us all as well, why not!

Date: Thursday 14th November 2013
Time: 7:30pm onwards

Venue: Frankie and Swiss, Ground Floor, 199 Toorak Road, South Yarra. It’s the building on the corner of Toorak and Claremont Street. Right on the #8 tram or a 2 second walk from South Yarra station. I’ll also have parking available underneath the building. You’ll need to call me (9826 4261) to buzz you under:)
map
Craft: BYO a project.
Goodies: We will have the usuals, like tea and biscuits – and because it’s nearly the festive season, a little champagne as well! Feel free to bring something along if you would like to show off your baking skills!

ALL HALLOWS EVE PUMPKIN CARVING with Allanagh, Wednesday, 23rd October 2013

Brunswick Brown Owls celebrate the festival ALL HALLOWS EVE this Wednesday! We will celebrate with carving a big old pumpkin. Never done it before? Me neither, but don’t worry, our champion pumpkin carver Allanagh will be sharing her experience and skills (I'll share my lino cutting tools with you).

Come and join us, Wednesday 23rd October at 7pm at the Sporting Club, Weston St, Brunswick, Victoria for a Halloween pumpkin carving fiesta!
You'll need to pick up a pumpkin from a local grocer.

We may not live in the northern hemisphere, and we’re not preparing for the long winter ahead, but we love to celebrate all sorts of festivals!
It's not just about American teen horror films, thankfully.

 Allanagh says:
Ok folks, the time to get your scare on is fast approaching! If you want to carve a pumpkin you should get your thinking cap on because as the old saying goes, “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”

From experience, it takes a lot longer than most people realise, so if possible, have your pumpkin already hollowed out (this can take between half to 1.5hrs depending on the size of your pumpkin).

The simplest designs are often the most successful, so you might want to print out a design. A good investment is a set of lino cutting tools with which to carve, is at http://www.silkcutlino.ashop.com.au/ and they have them with free delivery.

Check out our Halloween Pinterest page! http://www.pinterest.com/cailinbeag/all-hallows-eve/

If you’re not into pumpkins or sharp knives, feel free to bring your own crafty project and carry on with that, there will be lots happening in the fine Ladies Lounge.

We’d love you to come and say HIDEE HI to the Brunswick Brown Owls! If you can’t make it, we’ll pop up photos of the evening on our Brunswick Brown Owls Facebook page so you can join in the fun too.  We have over 170 members (no spambots luckily!), and you can be a part of our crafty community too! Come along and learn some new skills with us!

The Sporting Club still has delicious tapas and discounted cider jugs! Tasty.
Bring your friends! We like your friends! We like you!

Parramatta Brown Owls Ongoing

Up in the western suburbs of Sydney, a small but pretty regular group has been meeting at Mars Hill Cafe on the last Saturday of the month. It's a BYOCraft group that has brought spinning, patchwork, cross stitch, knitting, crochet, and other needlework to the table.

Mars Hill has wonderful breakfasts and if we might have been shy the first few months, now we all seem to order up a hearty breakfast and lovely drinks upon arrival. Then, just as though we are sitting around grandma's kitchen table, the needles and pins, hooks and wools, fabrics ands fibers appear and the real neighborly chatting begins.

This is a lovely group of women (and their children) who share resources, ideas, patterns, and assistance. If you live anywhere just north of Sydney, or up in the Blue Mountains, you'll feel drawn to visit our little group.

Next meet:

Saturday, 26 October at 11 am
Mars Hill Cafe
331 Church Street, Parramatta

We've booked the large room upstairs. You can order drink and/or food on your way up or bring your own. If you order, they'll bring it up to you. If you bring kids, there's a small room full of board games just next to the large upstairs room.

There is no fee and you do not have to buy anything from the cafe to attend.

We look forward to meeting you!
