Brown Owls Melbourne 3000 CBD - August gathering: Bunting-tastic

Last Melb 3000 gathering I was super delighted to share my happy news of my engagement to be married and even more super delighted to have the good wishes and celebratous goodwill of my lovely Owl-y friends.

It was suggested at that gathering that some owls might like to help me with some of the crafty decorations that will be adorning our backyard homespun wedding in mid October - namely assistance with the crochet bunting!

So this August gathering Bunting-tastic we will be. Super friend Gina and I have started on the triangles - I love them. I have a rough colour scheme of navy, aqua, turquoise, claret, pink, mango, burnt sienna, gold and thereabouts.

The pattern is quite simple (mostly chain, trebles, some htr's) though does require you to know how to do basic crochet, though I'm sure there will be assistance on hand for any beginners that are up for a challenge!

If you would like to contribute your triangles to the wedding cause then I will supply you with hook and wool. If this is the case please indicate in your RSVP so I know how much 'stuff' to bring along.

If you'd like to make your own bunting then please bring 8 or double ply wool plus a size 5 crochet hook.

I will supply patterns.

Here's the deets:

when:     Tuesday 28th August 2012
at:      6.30 - 9pm
where:      The Parlour, Madame Brussels, level 3, 59-63 Bourke St, Melbourne 3000
bring:      wool - 8 or double ply + crochet hook size 5 (though if you are donating your crochet bunting triangles for the wedding decorations then I will supply you with wool and hook) or BYO project of your choice
cost:      no fee for attendance but you may like to purchase a drink or a delight from the Madame Brussels menu, by way of a thankyou for room usage
RSVP:     in the comments section below please - indicating your name eg. Sue H

Very looking forward to seeing you all next Tuesday.

Canberra :: August 19 :: granny squares

Hi Canberra owls
It's nearly brown owls time again already!

Next weekend we're getting together for some crochet! Don't worry if you don't know how - lovely Renae will be teaching how to crochet granny squares!

If you'd like to learn you just need to bring along a crochet hook and some yarn. Probably about an 8 ply (dk) yarn and a 3.5mm or 4mm hook are best for beginners.

As always everyone is welcome - if crochet isn't your thing we'd still love to see you and what ever you're crafting on just now. Don't forget we love 'show-and-tell' too!

The important details:
Sunday 19 August
1:30pm
Downer community centre
Please remember to bring $5 for room hire, and something to share for arvo tea if you would like!

Please RSVP in the comments so that we know how many owls to expect.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

July Meeting - Hobart Brown Owls

On a lovely day that alternated between bright blazing sunshine and driving rain, Hobart Brown Owls met again in our little cottage.  Excitingly, we were almost a bit squishy in the cottage as we had several new members, including one of 5 weeks old :)

We also covered virtually every crafty discipline as follows:

Jaci continued knitting scarves for her triplets (she is onto number three!)

Jennie was sewing up a cardigan for her five week old, while balancing the five week old on her knee (super impressive).

Alissa was crocheting a cushion cover - nearly finished already!

Rachel was hand appliqueing a quilt for her boys, while Issy was doing some cutting / sticking / colouring and generally getting in the way :)

Danika whipped up a baby quillt for her friend

Can't wait for August's meet!

Happy Owling :)

Southside Owls ~ Thursday 9th August ~ Miss Jackson

Hello ladies!!

Come along a join us for our last bit of winter craft action this year (bring on spring!) at Miss Jackson.

To appropriately herald out winter, we are going to have cheese, gluhwein and a roaring fire to keep us fuelled for our craft endeavours!

And this month's craftarama is macramé friendship bracelets!! Yay! I got a bit obsessed with making these last summer, they are super easy and quick to do and great for little gifts, for friends of course!

Date: Thursday 9th August

Time: 7:30pm onwards

Venue: Miss Jackson2/19 Grey Street St. Kilda (through the big rusty gate)

Close to the #16, #96 and #112 trams, and nearby parking below

Craft: MACRAMÉ FRIENDSHIP BRACELETS! BYO is always welcome!

There is of course heaps of inspiration on the interwebs and loads of tutorials, here are a few good ones:

I'll bring along some printed instructions, a fantastic old 80s book I have on friendship bracelets, and I've got the latest Mollie Makes which has a few different tutorials in it.

If you'd like to join in it's a short and simple list of supplies/equipment to bring along:

~ thread in approx 2m lengths
embroidery floss is good, or any cotton yarn, really you could use whatver you like, my personal fav is DMC soft cotton from Morris and Sons

- a safety pin or clipboard can be handy for securing the top while you knot away

Goodies: We will provide the gluhwein, please feel free to bring along some cheese and crackers to go with!

RSVP: Add a comment to let us know you are coming along!

Feel free to email me or tweet me with any questions.

Looking forward to seeing you all! Yay for gluhwein, cheese, chatting and craft!!
