Brown Owls in Mongolia: crafting near you!

Brown Owls Mongolia is meeting again tomorrow for some craft at the Woolcraft NGO. I'm also delighted to say that persistence in putting out an invite to the world to join us has actually paid off - at last, someone IS actually in the Mongolian neighbourhood and we have a couple of Finnish people joining us! Read more here. How good!
Thank you, Brown Owl of Finland!

Brown Owls Mongolia

Felting and knitting continues in Ulaanbaatar! A bit light on photographic evidence this time but here is one of the final products: a bird bag (finishing touches after our last visit to Ayush at the Woolcraft NGO for some feltmaking). Next time, either/and/or papier mache or back to Ayush for some wool dying and spinning!

Leading the felt revolution

Brown Owls Mongolia have been felting again. Yes, again. We love it. So does Mongolia.

Lots of people live in it, others wear it. And you can get your wool from a whole bunch of animals: goats, camels, sheep, yaks (animals are a *big deal* in Mongolia, I don't know in which other countries the annual national livestock census makes national headlines). So here we are, crafting the felt dream ... check it out.

Mongolia Brown Owls meeting this Thursdsay

The Mongolian Owls will be meeting again on Thursday evening at Isa's house to do whichever crafting exploit takes your fancy.
Just popping that out in the blogosphere once again in case you know some crafty folks who happen to be in Ulaanbaatar this week ... or anyone really :)

Brown Owls Mongolia - one cat wanted.

Learning how to spin wool was harder than we all expected, but our friends at the Woolcraft NGO and our Little Brown Owl helper got us through.

Brown Owls Mongolia: What's your craft?

Mongolia's Brown Owls mixed it up for our crafty afternoon: knitting, crochet, jewellery, felt badges and feeling the post-communist vibes with a pair of Lenin earrings too. Oh, and lots of tea.

Check out the photos here!

Brown Owls Mongolia (Still) Love Felt

Brown Owls Mongolia have been getting busy following in the footsteps the nation's felt-making traditions. This time we've taken craft back indoors to learn from local felt, spinning, knitting and crafting gurus at the Mongolian Wool Craft NGO.
