Outer Eastern Suburbs Melbourne

Hi Everyone,

I'm having a bit of trouble coordinating everything through emails for a meet up.

I've created a facebook group for us, if you could join that would be super dooper helpful!

I can't figure out how to link to the group... but if you just search Brown Owls - Outer Eastern Melbourne, you'll find it!

We are super excited about Thursday night this week for the first meet of Brown Owls Southside!

If you are wanting to join our first night with crocheting can you please bring:

1 crochet hook - preferably 4mm (they are really cheap and you can buy a whole pack, all different sizes at Spotlight!)

1 ball of yarn - 8ply please as this is one of the easiest to use. I use pure wool because it is easier to find but you can use anything you like! (Spotlight is doing a ball of wool for $2 if you are a card holder, which I guess most of your are!!!)

If you are busting to know the basics before Thursday please make sure you check out Pips' blog for some lessons!

Brown Owls coming to Melbourne's West!!!!

Hi All
We are looking for crafty guys and gals to join us for a new Brown Owl group in your Western Suburb.
We are looking to base the group in Footscray meeting @ the Station Hotel on the cnr of Napier and Hyde Streets. Its a great little pub really relaxed with large communal tables, excellent coffee/ drinks/nibblies a perfect place to meet chat and craft.

A short walk from Footscray Railway Station close to bus routes as well (220 from city stops right out front) makes it the perfect meeting place. There is plenty of parking in the council carpark across the street.

What we are looking for is an idea of numbers of interested people and what times are free for you to meet (nights is best but so far Tuesday, Wednesday nights are not avail).

So if you are interested in joining a Brown Owl crafting group heres your chance!
Just leave a comment about what night would suit you to meet on.

Look forward to hearing from you!

Helen :)

Canberra Brown Owls - Accessorise with us!

It's that time again Canberra Brown Owls! This month we are setting ourselves up for a glam autumn wardrobe with brooches...

zipper brooch tutorial here

It’s up to you what you'd like to work with: felt, ribbon, zippers, fabric, ricrac....there are a few links to get you started in the email. I'm already having a tough time narrowing down what I'd like to make; I might have to plan for several!

As always, look for inspiration via google (include "tutorial" in the search terms if you specifically want how-tos) and especially Flickr.

We will have a few tools available, like a hot glue gun and an iron and ironing board, but otherwise please BYO all your supplies and instructions. Brooch backs can be found in various sizes from the larger craft chains or from beading stores.

Dhaka Brown Owls - every Tuesday

Dhaka Brown Owls will now meet every Tuesday from 3pm - 5pm in the Libary on the first floor of the Nordic Club. You just need an expat card to come in. There's no other cost and you'll find a group of nice people all making things together.

We met yesterday and found out that we have a cross stitch expert among us so maybe we'll have a 'learn cross stitch' get together in the future. For now we're all just bringing along what we're making and enjoying making it together.

Here's a few pictures of what we've been making.

Crochet bunting:
A knitted baby blanket in lovely colours:
A cross stitch Daffodil to remind us all of Spring in Europe. Sadly no daffodils here in Dhaka.
and I just have to show you how one of our owlette's keeps her embroidery threads, all numerically filed.
There's some wonderfully nice people in Dhaka making some truly lovely things. Looking forward to seeing you all next week and hopefully some new faces as well. xx

Mitcham Brown Owls.

Hi there Owlies,

We're back on the Blog, with a big thank you to Cherry for coming to our rescue again!
We have a number of new members, welcome to you all - we look forward to spending lots of happy crafting hours together.

Our Temari balls were a great hit and we are going to continue them this month, giving you the chance to finish the one you started last month, if you haven't already. Or to bring your friends along who you've been admiring your new craft skill.

We will also have learn to knit or crochet available or you might like to bring your own craft.

Please bring along any thing you've worked on during the holdiays so we can all admire your work.

I'd like to say a big hello to Caryn who has moved back to New Zealand, and who we miss - I hope you will find a good craft group there to share your many skills with.

Please RSVP so we know how many kits to have available.
We'll look forward to seeing you at our next meeting.

Lianne and Julie.

Where: Gallery One, One Torrens Street Mitcham ph; 8271 2624.

When: Tuesday March 8th, 7 pm to 9.30 pm.

Cost: Once - of joining fee $10. Gallery hire $5. Kit fee for Temari ball $5.
